The Douglas A3D Skywarrior was expressly designed as an all jet carrier borne bomber capable of delivering a nuclear bomb load. At the time of its introduction, the A3D was the largest and heaviest aircraft to be deployed aboard an aircraft carrier and received the affectionate name “Whale”. This A3D-2 carries the markings of VAH-4 “Four Runners” serving aboard the U.S.S Hancock, February 1962.
