The diminutive size of the A4D Skyhawk belies its capabilities as an effective attack aircraft. The brainchild of Douglas Aircraft designer Ed Hienemann the A4D was replacement for the Skyraider. The little delta wing aircraft could out perform the Sykraider in every category, especially in speed and heavy weapons load. This performance earned it the nickname of “Heinemann’s Hot Rod”. This A-4c is shown in the markings of VA-153 “Blue Tail Flies” serving aboard the U.S.S. Coral Sea 1961-1966.
