The Douglas Devastator was the U.S. Navy’s first all-metal monoplane torpedo bomber. Although obsolete by 1941, it saw extensive action immediately after Pearl Harbor at the Battle of the Coral Sea and at Midway. At Midway, thirty-five Devastators were lost including all of the aircraft and crews of Torpedo Squadron 8 commanded by Lt. Cmdr. John C. Waldron. This TBD-1 is shown in the paint scheme of VT-6 serving aboard the USS Enterprise in February 1942.
