An North American LT-6G of the 6148th Tactical Air Control Squadron (Airborne) directs F-84G Thunderjets onto Chinese Communist positions in Korea. Known as “Mosquitos”, these Tactical Air Controllers' mission was to identify enemy ground positions then lead the air support fighter-bombers to these targets. By the end of the Korean War the “Mosquitos” had flown 40,354 sorties comprising over 117,000 combat hours. Over eight communist divisions, five tank divisions, 563 artillery pieces, 5,079 vehicles, 12 locomotives, thousands of rail cars and 84 bridges were completely destroyed through the direct efforts of the Tactical Air Controllers flying their slow but tough Texans.
