The B-26 marauder was a “hot” plane for its time. Pilots, who were not used to its high landing speed, could find themselves running out of runway on touchdown. Early in the program, there were so many accidents at MacDill Field, Florida, the phrase “one a day in Tampa Bay” was coined. However, in the end, the Marauder had the lowest loss rate of any U.S. bomber during World War II. This B-26B is from the 394th Bomb Group, 584th Bomb Squadron, 1944.
