Transocean Air Lines was founded in Oakland California in 1946 and was the most innovative, if not the largest, of all the non-scheduled airlines. Typical of the Transocean early equipment is the ex-military C-54B-1-DC (N88756) converted to passenger service. Transocean owned, operated or leased the largest fleet of DC-4s of any line, some 75 of them having been registered under their name at one time or another between 1946 and 1960. To help promote the airline Transocean's equipment and facilities were used in the making of a number of movies, most notable of these being "The High and the Mighty".
