In September 1944 United Air Lines placed an order for fifteen new DC-4-1009 passenger liners from Douglas Aircraft. Late in 1945 United canceled the order in anticipation of the U.S. Government releasing surplus C-54 Skymasters on to the civilian market. Depicted is United’s Mainliner Yosemite (NC30040), a commercial conversion of ex-C-54B-D-15-43.
