The Boeing B-47 was the first jet bomber to introduce swept-back wings. The Stratojet was a pilots airplane. It flew higher and faster than any previous U.S.A.F. bomber and had the speed and maneuverability of contemporary fighter interceptors. Although it could only deliver a bomb load within a medium range it made up for this by its deployment at forward bases in Europe, North Africa and Alaska. This B-47 carries the Strategic Air Command insignia.
