The B-36 Peacemaker’s range and payload capability defined it as the first intercontinental strategic bomber. It four huge bomb bays could carry more than ten times the bomb load of a World War II B-17 and deliver its bombs to a much more distant target. In service with the Strategic Air Command the B-36 Peacemaker kept the peace for the first ten years of the Cold War.
