The B-45 Tornado was the U.S. Air Force’s first operational all jet bomber and the first four jet aircraft to fly in the United States. The B-45 first flew on March 17, 1947 but it wasn’t until the Korean War this jet bomber came of age. While the U.S. was embroiled in the conflict Tornados flew missions as a nuclear deterrent that kept the Soviet Union at bay. This B-45 is in the markings of the 47th bomb wing.
