Like the Douglas B-18 the Lockheed PV-1 Ventura was an adaptation of a commercial airliner design. Unlike the B-18, however, the Ventura was a success story and perfectly adapted to its mission. Serving with the “Empire Express” in the Aleutian Islands the Ventura endured harsh arctic conditions while attacking Japan’s northern home islands. This PV-1 carries the paint scheme and markings of VB-135 stationed at Casco Field, Attu, Alaska in 1943.
