The B-24 Liberator was the most produced American aircraft of World War II. The lumbering Liberator carried out far more bombing missions than the more photogenic B-17. Designated as the PB2Y, the Navy used the Liberator for long-range reconnaissance and bombing patrols in the Pacific Theater. This B-24J, “Fearless Fosdick,” was commanded by Lt. Bud Farnsworth of the 8th Air Force, 445th Bomb Group, 702nd Bomb Squadron stationed at Tibenham, England, 1944-45.
