The Shrike was the U.S. Army’s first monoplane attack aircraft. The A-12 was a refinement of the earlier Shrike designs with a radial engine instead of a liquid cooled inline engine. In January 1934, the Army adopted the blue fuselage scheme for all types of aircraft. The yellow cowl shown here identifies this A-12 as being from the 20th Attack Squadron, Hawaii, 1939.
