The Douglas PD-1 was the last of a core design that dated back to World War I. This successful Douglas version of the Curtiss flying boat was operational from 1930 to 1936. Here it is shown in the markings of VP-6. Large fuselage side identification numbers were used through the mid thirties; however, the use of the red, white and blue rudder stripes was discontinued on patrol aircraft in 1934.
