The B-25 is best remembered for performing the first bombing raid on Tokyo in 1942, however it was used extensively in all theaters of operation in World War II. The Mitchell was named in honor of Brig. Gen. William “Billy” Mitchell and is the only U.S aircraft named after a person. This B-25 carries the black and white wing and fuselage stripes applied to all Allied aircraft during the Invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944.
