The F9F Panther was Grumman's first jet powered fighter and saw much combat in Korea. The McDonnell F2H Banshee was the beginning of McDonnell's long relationship with the Navy. The Vought F7U Cutlass was designed as the first jet powered fighter to use afterburners. The Douglas F4D Skyray was the first U.S. Navy jet fighter to achieve supersonic performance.
