Northwest received its first Boeing 377 Stratocruiser in November 1949. The Stratocruiser provided more comfortable accommodations on the long transpacific flights especially on the U.S. to Tokyo flights via Alaska. The Stratocruiser remain in service with Northwest until replace by jets in 1960.
