North Central Airlines was a regional airline in the midwestern United States. Originally founded as Wisconsin Central Airlines in 1944 the company located to Madison in 1947. By 1952 the airline became North Central Airlines and relocated to Minneapolis–St. Paul.
The Convair 580 was a turbine conversion for the popular line of Convair twin-engine transports and by 1969 all 33 of North Central's Convair 340s an 440s were converted to turboprop Convair 580s. North Central's first jet-powered service began on the April 1, 1967 schedule
