Eastern Airlines was the only company to purchase the Lockheed L-649. The L-649 was basically an L-049 fitted with the later, more powerful engines used on the B-29 bomber. The fuselage and wings had been reinforced to increase maximum take off weight. There was also a series of modifications to increase passenger comfort. It is considered the first real civilian version of the Lockheed Constellation.
