To many air racing historians Cook Clelland's Number 57 represents the most beautiful example of the post war air racers. Clelland won the 1947 and the 1949 Thompson Trophy Races flying F2G Super Corsairs. With the 28 cylinder Pratt & Whitney R-4360 engine putting out an astounding 3000 hp the Super Corsairs were recording over 400 mph laps speeds.
